Who We Are

Based in Happy Valley–Goose Bay, NL, Mokami is a community-rooted feminist organization that works alongside women and gender-diverse people to advance safety, well-being, and gender equity. Our work is shaped by the realities of northern life, deep relationships, and the strength and resilience of the people who call this place home.

We do this work on the traditional and ancestral homelands of the Innu and Inuit. We recognize the Land as a source of knowledge, connection, and care, and understand that relationships to the Land continue to shape wellbeing. These relationships and histories guide how we show up—with care, humility, and a commitment to creating safer spaces, offering practical supports, and advocating for systems that better reflect people’s lived experiences.

Care
We meet people with kindness, respect, and support. Care is at the heart of how we listen, respond, and create spaces where people feel safe to be themselves.
Trust
We build trust through honesty, consistency, and openness. It grows when we show up without judgment and follow through with care.
Safety
We support physical & emotional safety for women and gender-diverse people. Safety means being able to speak openly, ask for help, and feel protected.
Belonging
We create spaces where people feel accepted and connected. Belonging means people don’t have to change who they are to be welcomed.
Choice
We respect each person's right to make decisions about their own life. People choose what support feels right for them, and we follow their lead.
