One Year of Fireweed Counselling Collective

Women hugging each other

It’s been a year of learning, showing up, and building something new.

We’re marking one year of the Fireweed Counselling Collective, a partnership between Mokami and End Sexual Violence Newfoundland and Labrador. The collective was created out of a shared need for counselling that feels more accessible, more relational, and more reflective of the realities people are navigating here in Labrador. Fireweed holds space for people of all genders who are impacted by gender-based violence in many different ways. This includes those who have experienced harm, those who have caused harm, and those who carry the impacts through their relationships, families, and work.

Over the past year, we’ve seen that need clearly.
More than 350 counselling sessions have taken place.
Thirty-nine participants have accessed support.
And 18 counsellors have been part of this growing collective.

Behind those numbers are real people; people reaching out, showing up, and doing hard work. They also reflect the care, skill, and commitment of the counsellors who have made this possible, and the relationships that continue to grow through this work.

We’re grateful to the Canadian Women's Foundation and the Government of Newfoundland and Labrador for supporting this work and helping make it possible.

One year in, we know this is just the beginning. We’ll keep learning, adjusting, and showing up alongside the people who trust us with their stories.

Thank you to everyone who has been part of this first year.
