Our hearts are very full.
Mokami was honoured to receive the “Non-Profit of the Year” award from the Labrador North Chamber of Commerce. We are deeply grateful for this recognition and recognize that this is a reflection of something much larger than us.
Mokami has a nearly 50-year history of walking alongside women and gender-diverse people in Labrador. This work did not begin with us, and it does not belong to us alone. It has been shaped by generations of strong Labrador feminists; people who have advocated, cared, resisted, and created change in ways both visible and unseen. It has also been shaped by the trust of those who continue to reach out, show up, and share their experiences with us every day.
This award belongs to all of them.
Our deepest hope is that one day organizations like ours will no longer be needed. That safety, equality, and opportunity will be so deeply rooted in our communities that this work—as we know it—will no longer be necessary.
Until that day comes, we will continue to show up with care. With persistence. With humility. And with one another.
